Instructions:
Vocabulary - Talk about these words before and after reading the rhyme. Briefly explain what each of the words means so he or she will better understand the rhyme:
tuffet - a low seat or footstool
frightened - scared
curds and whey - a food, similar to cottage cheese
Read the rhyme to your students by placing your finger under the words and slide it across the page as you read. Allow your students to listen and enjoy as you read the rhyme.
Talk about the Rhyme after you have read:
Tell what happened.
What is Little Miss Muffet doing?
What happened when Little Miss Muffet was eating?
How does Little Miss Muffet feel about spiders?
Reread the story using the story sequence images
Additional Ideas
Retell - In small group or at a center have the students retell the rhyme using the story sequence images.
Act out the nursery rhyme
Story Extension: Little Miss Muffet was eating one of her favorite foods. Ask your students to name his or her favorite snack.
Story Connection Center: Introduce the center by modeling how to match the the shape on the tuffet with the shape of the spider. Model identifying the shapes by name and color.
